Breed History
Great Pyrenees are one of the oldest Arctic breeds, developed by indigenous people in the Pyrenees Mountains of France and Spain as livestock guardians. Their history as protective working dogs has shaped their gentle yet vigilant nature.
Breed Appearance
These large, majestic dogs boast a thick, weather-resistant double coat, a broad head, erect ears, and a plumed tail that curls gracefully over their back. Their predominantly white coat is often accented with patches of gray, badger, or tan.

Breed Temperament
Calm, patient, and protective, Great Pyrenees form strong bonds with their families. They are affectionate with loved ones but can be independent and reserved with strangers. Their natural guarding instinct requires early socialization and consistent training.
Breed Grooming
Their dense coat requires frequent brushing, particularly during shedding seasons, to prevent matting and remove loose hair. Regular nail trimming, ear cleaning, and occasional bathing are recommended.
