Created in the 1990s by crossing the Yorkshire Terrier with the Maltese breed, the Morkie was born. This breed is very popular today and chances are you have one in your neighborhood! The Morkie is known for their small size, sweet personality and adorable faces.

TEMPERAMENT

The Morkie is a very pleasant, happy dog to add to your family. This breed tends to always be confident and unaware of their small size. They enjoy short daily walks and lots of playtime with their owner and family. This breed is very smart and requires daily mental and physical exercise or they can become destructive and bark a lot. This breed is known for being fantastic with children and other pets. Please provide early socialization to ensure these qualities in your pup. This breed loves to be with you as much as possible, so be sure to include your Morkie in activites and movie time!

APPEARANCE

The Morkie is a small breed with males and females measuring 9-12 inches in height and weighing an average of 8-13 pounds. Please note that males and females may be smaller or larger than breed standard and still be a Morkie. This breed has hair very similar to a human that comes in black, brown, cream, white and all shades of these colors. Their two, medium ears are triangular in shape but may stand tall or fall gently alongside of their face. Their round eyes are shades of black or brown. Their tail is dependent on the breeder, and may be cropped short and stand firmly upright, or be long and slightly curved over their back.

GROOMING

This breed is a low shedding breed. Their hair is very similar to human hair. Daily brushing due to their long hair and regular trips to the groomer is required.

SPECIAL NOTES

Please fully educate yourself about small breeds and their health needs. A properly fenced in yard or properly fitting leash and harness are required for this breed while outdoors at all times. Please fully educate yourself about the Yorkshire Terrier and Maltese breeds prior to adding one to your home to ensure you are able to make a life long commitment both physically and financially for your new family member. All dogs originate from wolves (Canis Lupus). Each breed of dog was originally created by mixing different breeds together in an effort to bring forth certain characteristics. Once a breeder has created acceptable “breed characteristics” within their bloodline and these “breed characteristics” have shown to be reliably reproduced in the offspring for three (3) generations, the bloodline may be upgraded from the category of “foundation stock” to “pure-bred”. The same “pure-bred” breed standards vary from different continents, countries, territories, regions, breed clubs, and canine pure-breed registries depending on the goals of their breeders.

Dog DNA testing companies can have accurate results for a specific bloodline of a small colony of dogs. However, there are tens of thousands of different bloodlines in the world which have not yet been tested for marker baseline results by Dog DNA testing companies as of 2024. For this reason Dog DNA testing companies do not guarantee the 100% accuracy of their breed lineage results and will also show different marker results for the same pure-bred breed in different continents, countries, territories, regions, breed clubs, and canine pure-breed registries depending on the goals of their breeders.
