Created in the 1990’s by crossing the Miniature Poodle and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, the Cavapoo is an extremely popular breed today in the USA.
This is a small breed with males and females typically measuring 7-15 inches in height and weighing 10-20 pounds in weight. Their round head is joined by two medium sized pendant shaped ears hanging alongside of their face, with a short muzzle. Their two round, large eyes are available in hazel to black in color and sometimes even blue! Their soft, wavy-curly hair is available in solid black, black and white, white, white and red, red, ruby, apricot, tan, cream, merle and many other color combinations.
Please note that the Cavapoo is a sensitive breed due to the Cavalier genetics, which may or may not result in separation anxiety. It’s important to also note that this breed is extremely sensitive to correction and must be trained using positive reinforcement training methods. The Cavapoo breed is an excellent choice for both families with children and households without. They do well in apartment settings as well as more rural settings. This breed is eager to please, extremely loving, very loyal and known for being cuddly! Cavapoos can get along well with other dogs and pets with early socialization. They are playful and very smart. Daily walks and 30-60 miniutes of indoor playtime regularly will keep your Cavapoo well and happy!
Daily brushing and professional grooming when needed. Please pay special attention to their coat to prevent mats from forming.
Please note that this breed is not meant for everyone. This is due to the possibility of separation anxiety developing after time. Due to the Cavalier genetics, Cavapoos may or may not have sensitive stomachs. Keeping a balanced and routine diet is the best option to prevent having any issues. Please fully educate yourself about this breed prior to adding one to your family to ensure a lifelong commitment physically and financially for your new dog. A proper leash and harness or properly fenced in yard is highly recommended for your new addition. All dogs originate from wolves (Canis Lupus). Each breed of dog was originally created by mixing different breeds together in an effort to bring forth certain characteristics. Once a breeder has created acceptable “breed characteristics” within their bloodline and these “breed characteristics” have shown to be reliably reproduced in the offspring for three (3) generations, the bloodline may be upgraded from the category of “foundation stock” to “pure-bred”. The same “pure-bred” breed standards vary from different continents, countries, territories, regions, breed clubs, and canine pure-breed registries depending on the goals of their breeders. Dog DNA testing companies can have accurate results for a specific bloodline of a small colony of dogs. However, there are tens of thousands of different bloodlines in the world which have not yet been tested for marker baseline results by Dog DNA testing companies as of 2024. For this reason Dog DNA testing companies do not guarantee the 100% accuracy of their breed lineage results and will also show different marker results for the same pure-bred breed in different continents, countries, territories, regions, breed clubs, and canine pure-breed registries depending on the goals of their breeders.
