Breed History

The Yorkiepoo was created by crossing the Yorkshire Terrier with the Miniature/Toy Poodle. This breed makes a fantastic family dog for both city and rural homes.

Breed Appearance

Measuring 7-15 inches tall and weighing 3-15lbs, the Yorkiepoo is a small breed. Their coat can vary in appearance from curly, wavy, or somewhat wiry and comes in black, brown, chocolate, cream, gray, red, silver, sable and combinations of these colors. Their eyes are round and come in black and brown. Their nose is available in brown, black and liver. Their body is built compact and short to the ground. Their two triangular ears may fold alongside of their face, while others have standing ears similar to the Yorkshire Terrier. Their tail is curved and hangs gently over their back.

Breed Temperament

The Yorkiepoo is an extremely smart, small breed who is easy to train and eager to please. This breed thrives on having something to do, or somewhere to go. It is important to include your Yorkiepoo with family activities and trips out. Positive reinforcement training methods are the only methods we recommend.

This breed requires daily brushing and professional grooming.

Special Notes

Teeth cleanings are highly recommended and regular vet check ups are very important for this breed. All dogs originate from wolves (Canis Lupus). Each breed of dog was originally created by mixing different breeds together in an effort to bring forth certain characteristics. Once a breeder has created acceptable “breed characteristics” within their bloodline and these “breed characteristics” have shown to be reliably reproduced in the offspring for three (3) generations, the bloodline may be upgraded from the category of “foundation stock” to “pure-bred”. The same “pure-bred” breed standards vary from different continents, countries, territories, regions, breed clubs, and canine pure-breed registries depending on the goals of their breeders.

Dog DNA testing companies can have accurate results for a specific bloodline of a small colony of dogs. However, there are tens of thousands of different bloodlines in the world which have not yet been tested for marker baseline results by Dog DNA testing companies as of 2024. For this reason Dog DNA testing companies do not guarantee the 100% accuracy of their breed lineage results and will also show different marker results for the same pure-bred breed in different continents, countries, territories, regions, breed clubs, and canine pure-breed registries depending on the goals of their breeders.
